STATIONS

A parallel narrative is installed to set the Christian devotion, “The Stations of the Cross”, commemorating the events of the passion or last days of Jesus with mythologies from various cultures portrayed through the cycle of life from birth to death.

Fourteen boxed, clay relief and mixed media sculptures are displayed at 45 degrees to draw the viewers gaze down as a gesture of reverence. Wooden kneelers are
set below to further engage the symbolism of prayer.

Each of the fourteen drawings are centered above the sculptures as the viewer experiences a chronological procession from left to right addressing each station and accompanying drawing as an intimate moment of reflection.

A series of prints are laid upon a table covered with white linen under glass referencing the dissemination of this story in ancient book form.

Joseph Campbell’s, The Power of Myth, indigenous mythologies and contemporary, independent black and white film and photography are referenced to juxtapose religions, beliefs, moral stories and fables.
